H4 my not qualify for Tax Rebate Checks in Economic Stimulus Package
It looks like the Senate Finance Committee is trying to exclude residents with ITINs from receiving the Tax Rebates. Only residents with SSN will be eligible. The purpose is to prevent illegals from getting rebate checks. However, this may affect H4 dependents as well. Your spouse and your kids may not get the rebate ($600 for spouse , $ 300 for each kid) FOXNews.com - Senate Democrats Push Back Stimulus Votes to Next Week - Politics | Republican Party | Democratic Party | Political Spectrum

Hi,
What is the update on this?. I plan to file jointly with my wife (h4). She does NOT have a ITIN and I plan to file her W7 application along with the tax return. Is it ok if I claim rebate recovery of 1200$ along with the return? |

The Recovery Rebate Credit is a carry-over from the Bush Economic Stimulus Rebate from last year.
It allows those who did not qualify last, but DO qualify this year, to get the rebate added to their tax refund on their 2008 tax return. So if you are a Resident this year, you can claim the Recovery Rebate credit this year. Hope it helps!
