Hello
I am a single Indian Citizen.I was in OPT from 1 jan 2008 to Sep 24 2008 My H1b kicked off on Sep25 2008.So,I filed 1040NR EZ and got my refund last week.. I realised that If i had filed an extension,I could have filed 1040EZ instead (By opting for First year Choice) and hence would have qualified for recovery rebate of 600$ in 2009...... I want to file an amendment for this purpose....... Can I do this? I am willing to take professional help on this...Please advice. |

Venkat:
You filed correctly. Unless you are MARRIED, the First Year Choice option allows you to file dual-status, NOT as a resident alien. A dual-status alien, like a non-resident alien, is NOT eligible for the Recovery Rebate Credit.
