Hello,
I have been working in North Carolina since mid of 2008. From the beginning of 2008 to mid-2008, I was working in KY (Jan2008-Mid2008). However, even until today, my pay-stubs still reflect that I have been paying taxes for KY. I need to meet a Tax attorney to do my taxes, and I was worried if this can be a cause of concern. Please advice. Thanks in advance. -R (I posted the same thread HTML Code:

Using a tax attorney to file your tax return is the equivalent of using a neurosurgeon to take your appendix out. The neurosurgeon CAN perform the appendectomy, but he will charge you his neurosurgeon's fee to do it. I suggest you use an experienced tax preparer to prepare your return.
As for the state returns, file state return for BOTH NC and KY as part-year resident's in each state. This assumes that you MOVED from KY to NC in mid 2008. You will pay taxes only on the income earned in each respective state to THAT specific state. While this may be confusing to you, any competent tax pro can handle this split of income with little problem.
