Default Should fill 1040NR or 1040NR-EZ??

Hi,

I am on OPT through out last year(2009). In the year, I worked for first 2 months, then got a gap and moved to other place and started working from November(2009).

My main question is:
--I have a used car loan of more than $10000, can I have deduction on that?
--Can I have a deduction for travel expenses when I moved for search of a new job?

Should I simply fill 1040nr-ez by simply ignoring all of these or should I fill out something else. Please help!!

Default Form 1040NR-EZ Vs Form 1040NR F1 OPT visa taxes

Form 1040NR EZ or Form 1040NR - F1 OPT visa taxes

Form 1040NR is what we call long form, which you file if you have children and would like deduct moving expenses, job search expenses Form 3903 along with Form 1040NR.

If not you can file the simple form Form 1040NR EZ, which will cover only income, exemptions and credits.

Again since you worked in two states, you have to file two state returns.

Default To answer your questions

1) The used car loan is NOT a deduction.

2) If you move for a new job, you can file Form 3903 with Form 1040N to claim those moving expenses.

The travel costs for the INTERVIEW for the job is an employee business expense, which MUST exceed 2% of your Adjusted Gross Income and then be an itemized deduction on Schedule A of Form 1040NR.
