Default Money from Foreign Source is TAX-EXEMPT

For a non-resident alien, ANY money from a foreign source is NOT subject to U.S. taxes.

If you have a W-2, that money by definition is U.S.-sourced income. Hence, W-2 income IS subject to U.S. taxes.

Scholarships and grants are reported on Line #12 of Form 1040NR or Line #5 of Form 1040NR-EZ, but ONLY IF that scholarship or grant is considered to be taxable income, which, in your case, probably does NOT apply.

The scholarship and grants that are NOT taxable are reported on Line #8 of Form 1040NR-EZ.
